I know that a strong online presence is key to a competitive, successful business in today's global marketplace. I have worked for many years building online brands for top global publishers & media companies including Pearson Education, McGraw-Hill and International Data Group (IDG). I specialize in business to business, which can be a more difficult marketplace to build a brand presence in. I am also very comfortable and have a lot of experience working with consumer brands and small businesses. I have a unique perspective on web development - though in my recent career I have held management positions such as Senior Project Manager, Online Marketing Manager, Head of Online and Head of Community, I started out as a front-end coder and continue to keep up my coding skill set. I am well versed in the code structure and technology of the web, which enables me to easily translate business requirements into technical specs and work directly on implementation with development staff.

I am also well trained in branding, usability and site architecture, so I can manage any aspect of a web project - from working with designers on the look and feel of the site, to developing specs for new features & functionality, to managing builds, user testing, and launch. I am very proficient in web analytics and skilled in most common platforms - Google Analytics, Omniture, WebTrends, AWStats. I am an SEO expert and can handle both technical SEO and optimizing content. I have managed PPC campaigns, but I usually try to work with clients to bring in as much targeted organic traffic as possible so they don't have to rely on paid search.

I have had a lot of experience managing content across sites. Working with copy writers, content managers, journalists and editors to optimize content for target audiences, and find a balance between traffic-driving content and content core to the brand and mission of the site. Ideally the two are one and the same, but especially in the B2B arena, it often requires a balance between viral content and specialist content.

I am very data-driven and always ensure that decisions are made based on evidence, rather than assumptions. If proper tracking and analytics are not in place to measure key elements, I ensure that these are implemented before a site is re-designed or new features are added. I am relentlessly focused on conversions - whether they be traffic driving for page views, e-commerce goals, or lead generation. I am familiar with all types of revenue structures - from display advertising to affiliate and e-commerce.

In the last few years I have been focusing more on Social Media and Community development. This includes growth and management of social media profiles on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Plus, and integration of those external communities back into core brand websites. I ensure that everyone involved in a brand's management on social platforms is aware of best practices and is trained to ensure that content is true to the brand, engaging, sticky, and drives conversions as well as promotes the overall brand.

As a consultant, I am happy to work with agencies or client-side, and am comfortable with both structures.
